Emotions and Empire -- Interviews and Events
Empires remind me of groups of friends that go bad or gradually dissolve. They’re remarkable for a time and then they turn sour or drift apart. Groups are fickle, just like emotions. Just like empires. And I’m thinking a lot about notions of power and dominance and allegiance and empire these days, as I’m sure many of you are as well.
I’ll be in Boston May 7th to speak at the MIT Free Speech Alliance about groupthink, self-silencing, vulnerability to extremism and other themes from Trust Your Mind, which debuts on May 6th. I’ll be in NYC on publication day for media interviews; look out for more podcasts and articles coming your way. If you’re in the Boston/Cambridge area, I hope you’ll join us at MIT for the live event — they are graciously giving copies away for registrants.
Samuel Kimbriel from The Aspen Institute’s Philosophy & Society Initiative and Shadi Hamid from The Washington Post co-host a wonderfully nuanced podcast called Wisdom of Crowds that I was a guest on last week — you can listen or watch here. Their tagline is “Agreement is nice. Disagreement is better.” And I love that. They are deeply reflective conversationalists.
Join us for the SF launch with Lee Fang on May 12th at the Commonwealth Club World Affairs and invite your friends and neighbors — be sure to get your tickets if you haven’t already registered.
Lastly, two quick notes:
A dozen or so of you I’ve been in touch with about this book off of Substack and I’m adding you here temporarily but will take you off this list after a couple of announcements. Sorry, TinyLetter closed down a while back and I no longer have multiple lists. Alas, will Substack become its own empire?
If you’re outside the US in the UK, Aus/NZ, Canada or India — good news, Trust Your Mind will be available locally and you can get your copy here. Translations are also forthcoming.
Thank you, as always, for your support <3
