Neurodivergent Pride, Gay Pride, Trans Pride, Black Pride, Asian Pride. The era of banishing the binary. The embrace of two spirits, multiple spirits, multiple identities, multiple selves.
It’s not new, more of a return. To the real, grounded, “natural” pulsating energy of humankind, of the planet, of our very being.
Funny how modern politics tries to make intersectionality and “identity politics” sound new, flashy and “controversial.”
I’ve never seen it that way. I see it as modern discourse catching up to reality.
But I’m also happy to see the ways in which neurological diversity has entered the discourse.
“Nobody’s normal” is a phrase many of us use, especially in the neurodiversity field — it’s also the subject of a new book by Roy Richard Grinker and a corresponding event that I’ll be moderating virtually for the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco. They’re a San Francisco landmark running literary events and hosting international leaders, and we’ve had some great conversations there in the past — my hope is many of you who are not local can join in, and the added bonus is the affordable five dollar price tag since it’s virtual.
The event is Thursday, June 10th at 10am Pacific Time — hope you can join us.
And I hope that you are finding a gentle ease in this time of transition, hesitatingly (or eagerly) peeking out from our cocoons into a world where the year-long distance has conjured up dreams and hopes and longings—and now we are all confronted with the reality of how to emerge and step out, and what to retain and what to compromise on. It is not easy. And I want to echo that for you if you are being hard on yourself. You are in good company amongst divergent minds; take comfort in that knowing…
Love,
Jenara
