Nuancing Our Way Through
I’m starting to share little snippets on Instagram about what my nuancing journey has been like the past few years — confronting a range of political, religious, and economic viewpoints, and the emotions that run underneath and across human behavior. It’s hard. This is new territory. Despite being a lifelong student of political theory and religious history, most of my public reporting and writing has been on psychology, business, tech and science. I’m not a culture warrior, but I believe in the human instinct toward communication and curiosity and wanting to solve problems and get to the bottom of things — and right now my antenna is tuned toward what’s happening in our wider political and social climate. My lens is the emotional underwaters, but the object is the noisy world above.
People seem upset that I’m pointing out that there is diversity of opinion and viewpoint.
I hope the overlapping value of viewpoint diversity and neurodiversity is glaringly obvious.

And a quick update! The Commonwealth Club has shared a discount code with us for SHIFT with the amazing psychologist, Ethan Kross, whose incredible research dives deep into the nuances of our inner psychology, from the “voice in our head” to what exactly emotions are made of. Use code SHIFT for the event on the 7th and register here.
I hope you’ll forward this note to others who care about — and crave — nuance.
It’s a lonely world, especially if you think in rainbow colors and not in black and white.
Thanks — I appreciate it!
